Southern Sky Home’s goal is to offer you classic and refined products with a cool on-trend attitude. They will juxtapose materials and styles, to ultimately offer you furnishing that can transform your space. For most of their hand crafted products, they work with mango wood as their main medium.
A top trend in home furnishings today is furniture made of Solid Mango wood. Yes, the very same trees providing us with delicious mango fruits can age and when their production years are over, they can be made in to beautiful furniture. Mango wood is a relatively new commercial manufacturing material and one that is growing in popularity amongst designers, manufacturers and consumers alike. The reasons behind its popularity are numerous, but the most important factors are (1) its sustainable nature and (2) it’s a densely grained hardwood with a strong structure: this makes it perfect for constructing products such as chairs and other framed items where weight-based stresses are applied frequently and in unpredictable ways. Mango is easy to tool and reducing the production costs. Despite its fine grain, mango wood is extremely receptive to staining and waxing, which serves to accentuate the grain’s patterning. This sustainable hardwood is a sourced responsibly as a byproduct of a thriving industry.
William Grace Jr. is the owner, operator and creative director of SSH. Bill resides and works from his office and showroom in Woodstock Georgia. Southern Sky Home has it’s permanent showroom in High Point, North Carolina where the company also attends High Point Furniture Market throughout the year. Bill spends his spare time traveling around the world collecting ideas and finding inspiration to bring into his own creations throughout all his adventures globe trotting. He has been in the furniture industry for much of his career. Bill led the merchandising program at Home Decorators Collection, was senior director of merchandising for Ballard Designs, and was vice president of merchandising for Storehouse. Most recently, Grace has worked as a consultant specializing in the furniture industry on both the wholesale and retail sides of the business.
